IN THE CARE OF

Sample Funeral Homes

It’s been three years since we said goodbye to our beloved brother, Michael, yet not a day goes by that we don’t think of him. Though time has moved forward, the love and memories he left behind remain deeply etched in our hearts.

Michael was the youngest of seven siblings — the heart of our family — whose laughter and light brightened every moment we shared. He was a loving partner to Sheilla and a devoted father to their children, Symon, Sebastian, and Quinn, who continue to carry his spirit and warmth in their smiles.

A man of many passions, Michael found joy in rock music, motorcycles, and spontaneous road trips. He was a talented musician and band member who never missed an Oktoberfest. His music, humor, and charm left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. He also loved indie films, and his sharp wit and easy laughter made him a loyal and unforgettable friend.

He was intelligent, kind, and full of life — a man who made people feel seen and loved. Though we miss him deeply, we take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with our mother in heaven, watching over us with that same familiar smile.

We will forever cherish his memory and honor his life by taking care of the family he loved so dearly. His song may have ended, but its melody lives on in all of us.

In the Philippines, saying goodbye to a loved one is not done in a single day. The traditional 9-day wake (commonly called lamay) followed by the 9 days of prayer (pasiyam) is one of the most important Catholic customs observed by Filipino families. This practice blends deep faith, family love, and community support.

In times of loss, many of us try to stay strong for our family. We push aside our tears, keep ourselves busy with arrangements, and tell ourselves “I have to be okay.” While this comes from a place of love, suppressing your grief can actually make the pain heavier in the long run. Allowing yourself to mourn is not a sign of weakness — it is an act of honesty and self-compassion.

Grief can feel like a heavy storm that never ends. The sadness, the emptiness, and the “why” questions can overwhelm even the strongest hearts. In these painful moments, many Filipinos turn to prayer and quiet reflection to find comfort and strength. While nothing can instantly remove the pain, these prayers and reflections may help bring moments of peace and hope.
